Possibly the best kept secret event of year will take place on Saturday. Alternative Beverage / Homebrew Adventures will be hosting the Carolina Brewmasters / America Homebrewers Association affiliated National Homebrew Day Celebration called Big Brew. This event will bring together homebrewers that will bringing their own equipment to brew using different techniques and equipment to make the same pre-determined style of beer.

This event is open to anyone that enjoys good beer, wants to learn how to brew, wants to see different brewing techniques, wants to meet local homebrewers and talk beer and you don't have to brew on Saturday to participate. Everyone will be welcome. We will be supplying filtered water for brewing. Wort chilling facilities will be supplied by Gary Cathey. Immersion chilling facilities will be supplied as needed. The Carolina Brewmasters will be supplying club members with their choice of liquid yeast.

Alternative Beverage and Homebrew Adventures will be smoking Boston Butts, barbequing chicken, grilling hamburgers and hotdogs.  If we run out of food, there are always a few geese running around that call our park home. I would like to encourage anyone coming to bring lawn chairs, coolers with drinks and beer. Did I say beer - yes, please bring your favorite homebrew or other favorite brew to share with others. Since this event will be held on the banks of the Catawba / Lake Wylie, you can bring your boat, or arrive by boat. Bring your fishing pole and don't forget your fishing license. Bring the whole family, it will be fun.

Because we greatly appreciate participation in this event, we will have drawings for $25 gift certificates for someone:

• brewing an ALL-GRAIN BATCH of beer

• brewing an EXTRACT BATCH of beer

• bringing a couple 6-packs, a keg beer or a covered dish

Besides having 2-3 ways to win a gift certificate, we will also be giving away other prizes that everyone present will be eligible to win.

The gates will be open by 9 am and brewing will be going on most of the day. We will have extra propane burners and kettles on first come, first serve bases.
